ENRON AND CHICAGO’S ARCHDIOCESE SIGN LONG-TERM ENERGY MANAGEMENT CONTRACT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, March 10, 1999

HOUSTON – Enron Energy Services, a subsidiary of Enron Corp., and the Archdiocese of Chicago, the second largest diocese in the U.S., announced today a seven-year agreement to provide energy and energy management services to approximately 2,000 Archdiocese facilities for $246 million.

Through the agreement, Enron will provide energy-related savings by upgrading and replacing, where needed, the Archdiocese’s energy equipment such as boilers, chillers and lighting fixtures; by supplying natural gas; and by providing other energy management services including consolidated billing and review of existing energy contracts to ensure the Archdiocese’s rates are optimized. In addition, during the next two years, Enron will conduct energy audits to decrease energy usage at Archdiocese facilities.

"Enron has had a successful partnership with the Archdiocese of Chicago for more than 11 years, saving them nearly $1 million per year on natural gas consumption," said Lou Pai, chairman and chief executive officer of Enron Energy Services. "We look forward to building an even stronger relationship and plan to increase the savings trend through strategic energy management projects designed to reduce energy consumption and costs."

"The Archdiocese of Chicago recognized early in the process that Enron was the only company that could deliver a customized, yet comprehensive, total energy management solution to take our facilities into the 21st century," said Tom Brennan, director of financial services of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

The Archdiocese of Chicago serves approximately 2.3 million Catholics who live in Cook and Lake counties in northeastern Illinois. The Archdiocese is headed by Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago. It employs approximately 18,000 people in its parishes, schools, charities, seminaries, cemeteries and administrative offices.

Enron is one of the world’s leading integrated natural gas and electricity companies. The company owns approximately $30 billion in assets, produces electricity and natural gas, develops, constructs and operates energy and water facilities worldwide and delivers physical commodities and risk management and financial services to customers around the world. Enron’s Internet address is www.enron.com, and the stock is traded under the ticker symbol, "ENE."
