ENRON TOPS SALES AND MARKETING MANAGEMENT MAGAZINE’S ANNUAL LIST OF AMERICA’S 25 BEST SALES FORCES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, June 24, 1999

HOUSTON – Enron announced today it has topped Sales and Marketing Management Magazine’s list of America’s 25 best sales forces. The ranking reinforces Enron’s leading position as a provider of innovative solutions for both wholesale and retail energy and communications customers.

“With $31.3 billion in revenues, Enron is a dynamic, innovative company that stays nimble and creative despite its size,” said Geoffrey Brewer, editor-in-chief for Sales and Marketing Magazine. “CEO Ken Lay is a model for how top executives can stay close to the field – he isn’t above making sales calls and prospecting.”

Editors of Sales and Marketing Magazine determined the top 25 list by surveying analysts, business school professors and executives in a broad range of industries. Enron is the only energy and communications company in the list that includes companies such as Dell, Cisco, Xerox and Federal Express. Criteria for selection included superior sales performance during the past three years, a reputation for customer satisfaction and a reputation for a satisfied work force.

“Our number one ranking is the result of an experienced sales force that listens to customers, intimately understands the customer’s business and packages the right services to help drive that customer’s business,” said Ken Lay, CEO of Enron Corp. “In particular, the sales force of Enron Energy Services, one of our newest companies, signed contracts worth $3.8 billion in 1998 and is expected to double that performance in 1999.”

The article notes that Enron’s sales force is a role model for superior selling, and its salespeople are in the business of saving customers money by negotiating long-term energy outsourcing agreements.

Enron is one of the world’s leading integrated natural gas and electricity companies. The company owns approximately $30 billion in assets, produces electricity and natural gas, develops, constructs and operates energy and water facilities worldwide and delivers physical commodities and risk management and financial services to customers around the world. Enron’s internet address is www.enron.com, and the stock is traded under the ticker symbol, “ENE.”
