ENRON WIND CORP. ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF 80 MW IOWA WIND POWER PROJECT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, April 21, 1999

TEHACHAPI, Calif. - Enron Wind Corp., a subsidiary of Enron Corp., announced the completion of construction of the 80.25-megawatt Storm Lake II Wind Power Generation Facility near Alta, Iowa.

The Storm Lake project, constructed, owned and operated by Enron Wind Corp., will deliver wind-generated electricity to IES Industries, Inc. (IES) through a 20-year power purchase agreement. IES is a subsidiary of Alliant Corporation, headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

“In just under seven months, we have added 80 megawatts of new green capacity to Iowa’s energy mix,” said Kenneth Karas, chairman and CEO of Enron Wind Corp. “This project is a world class power facility, and, located in farm fields, truly demonstrates the versatility and compatibility of wind as a power source.”

The Storm Lake project, located on productive farmland in northwest Iowa’s Buena Vista and Cherokee counties, features 107 Z-750-kilowatt wind turbines manufactured by Zond Energy Systems, Inc., the North American manufacturing arm of Enron Wind Corp. Rated at 750 kilowatts, the project’s wind turbines are the largest manufactured in the United States.

The Storm Lake II facility will generate approximately 255,000 megawatt hours of clean electricity annually. The installation will provide enough power to serve the needs of 36,000 average American households or 70,000 people. If coal were burned to generate the same amount of electricity, more than 130,000 tons per year would be required. Annually, based on the U.S. annual fuel mix, the project is expected to offset more than 392 million pounds of carbon dioxide, the leading greenhouse gas associated with global warming.
