ENRON AND COMPAQ COMPUTER CORPORATION SIGN ENERGY MANAGEMENT AGREEMENT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, October 3, 2000

HOUSTON -- Enron Energy Services, a subsidiary of Enron Corp., and Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ), the number one personal computer maker in the world, announced today a five-year energy management agreement.

Through the initial agreement, Enron will manage the supply of electricity and natural gas, as well as provide related energy management services for facilities in Texas, California and Massachusetts including the corporate headquarters located in Houston, Texas.

Lou Pai, chairman and CEO of Enron Energy Services said, “Compaq will receive immediate energy cost savings and effectively limit their exposure to energy price volatility at facilities located in states that have deregulated or will soon deregulate.”

“This agreement represents another step in our long-term partnership with Enron,” said Renee Leach, director, Worldwide Real Estate and Operating Services, of Compaq. “By turning our energy management over to the energy experts, Compaq will enjoy substantial benefits in both efficiency and cost.”
