Enron has leveraged its relationship with the Houston Astros to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of America in partnership with Major League baseball. Now in its fourth year, the Enron Power Blast program energizes many Astros home games. For every home run hit by a Astros player, Enron contributes $1,000 to the local area Boys and Girls Clubs. For every grand slam, the contribution is $5,000. In the first three years of the Enron Power Blast program, Enron has donated nearly $310,000. Last year alone the Astros' big bats racked up $90,000 for this worthy program.
During the 1999 season , Enron and The Astros also teamed for a very successful first-ever public auction of game-worn uniforms during the 1999 season. The event was the Enron Power Blast From. The Past Night on Sunday night May 16 when Houston hosted the San Francisco Giants in a nationally-televised contest on ESPN.
All of the Colt .45s jerseys that the Astros wore that evening were signed by Astros
players and coaches and then auctioned off on eBay for a one-week period. All told, the
40-plus jerseys raised more than $40,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Houston provide programs for boys and
girls ages 7 - 17, including educational, cultural enrichment, social recreation,
health and physical education, and delinquency prevention.
