FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, October 7, 1996

HOUSTON -- Enron Corp. (Enron) announced today the appointment of Kurt S. Huneke as president of Enron’s Joint Venture Management Corp. (JVM) where he will oversee the group’s operational and commercial management of Enron’s joint venture power operations. Huneke, previously vice president, Finance and treasurer of Enron since 1993, will retain the title of vice president of Enron and is expected to be elected senior vice president of Enron Global Power & Pipelines, L.L.C. He is replacing Amanda Martin who was named managing director, Western U.S. Origination at Enron Capital & Trade Resources, which includes commercial responsibility for integration with Portland General Corporation.

“Kurt’s expertise in the financial world along with his invaluable knowledge of the company will assist Enron in achieving its very ambitious goals in the rapidly changing gas and electricity environment,” said Ken Lay, chairman and CEO of Enron.

Huneke joined Enron in 1977. His previous positions with the company include senior vice president of Enron Power Corp. and chief financial officer of Enron Europe from 1990-1992 during the development of the Teesside power plant in the United Kingdom. He has a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Iowa and a MBA from Creighton University.

Enron also announced today that William D. Gathmann has been elected vice president, Finance and treasurer of Enron, replacing Huneke. Gathmann has been principal for International Project Finance-Asia and Middle East for Enron Development Corp. (EDC) since 1994.

“We are excited to have Bill return to Enron as treasurer and believe his recent experience in international finance will contribute significantly to Enron’s objective to become the world’s leading energy company,” Lay said.

Prior to joining EDC, Gathmann was the assistant treasurer of Enron. He joined the company in 1981 following his graduation from the University of Michigan with a bachelor of science degree in microbiology, a master of science degree in biological chemistry and a MBA.
