ENRON VOLUNTEERS JOIN WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR INITIATIVE HOME REPAIR PROJECT TO BRIGHTEN HOMES AND MANICURE YARDS FOR ELDERLY HOMEOWNERS IN THE HOUSTON COMMUNITY
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Wednesday, October 16, 1996
HOUSTON - Team work was all it took for Enron’s volunteer group to make two aged homes look almost brand new. This past Saturday, nearly 100 Enron volunteers organized into two crews for the Private Sector Initiative (PSI) Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization Program, a non-profit, volunteer-based effort that provides home repair to elderly and disabled low-income Houstonians.
Armed with lumber, saws, hammers, paintbrushes, lawn mowers, plants and trash bags, the Enron volunteers built new wooden steps, fixed a front porch, scraped off old paint, then primed and repainted the homes. They removed dead branches, leaves, trash and debris; cut the grass and added mulch, flowers, grass and shrubbery.
“It’s amazing what great things get accomplished when everyone pulls together as a team,” said Enron President Richard D. Kinder, who spent Saturday volunteering with the Enron repair crews. “By the end of the day we had two homes that looked almost brand new.”

Twice a year, thousands of volunteers from Houston-area corporations, churches, schools, and other organizations get involved with the PSI Housing & Neighborhood Revitalization Program to improve the quality of life for all Houstonians.
