AMOCO/ENRON SOLAR WINS CONTRACT TO BUILD LARGEST PHOTOVOLTAIC POWER PLANT IN THE UNITED STATES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, October 28, 1996

HOUSTON -- Amoco/Enron Solar announced today that the Board of Directors for the Corporation for Solar Technology and Renewable Resources ("CSTRR") has selected Amoco/Enron Solar as the developer of a 10 MW Solar Farm at the Nevada Test Site. CSTRR, with support from the U.S. Department of Energy, has the responsibility for facilitating the commercial development of solar technologies. CSTRR issued a request for proposal in 1995 seeking project developers to capitalize on Nevada's vast solar resources. After earlier selecting Amoco/Enron Solar and three other project developers for further consideration, CSTRR conducted an extensive project review, which culminated in a decision to award Amoco/Enron Solar the 10 MW project at the Nevada Test Site.

"This is a great project for everyone involved," said Robert C. Kelly, co-chairman of the managing board, Amoco/Enron Solar. "We are at a point in time where environmental concerns over carbon emissions are growing and global energy demand is soaring. Nevada's solar resources have the theoretical potential to provide a meaningful amount of power to the electric grid in the United States. Projects like this and others currently being developed by CSTRR will allow the solar industry to take the first commercial step to making that vision a reality."

Under the terms of the award, Amoco/Enron Solar will negotiate with CSTRR and the Nevada Test Site to finalize a definitive power purchase agreement by mid-1997. The terms of this agreement will govern the commercial sale of electricity from Amoco/Enron Solar's grid-connected solar farm to the Nevada Test Site. Construction is anticipated to begin in 1998. This facility would become the largest photovoltaic grid-connected system in the United States.

Amoco/Enron Solar also has executed a power purchase agreement with the State of Rajasthan in India for the construction of a 50 MW solar facility and is in final negotiations with Hawaiian Electric to construct a 4 MW solar facility on the Island of Hawaii.

Amoco/Enron Solar is the largest producer of solar photovoltaic cells in the United States and the second largest worldwide. Headquartered in Frederick, Maryland, Amoco/Enron Solar manufactures and sells photovoltaic modules worldwide through its Solarex business unit and sells solar energy worldwide through its Amoco/Enron Solar Power Development business unit.
